Learn Who We Are

  • Dr. Leslie Wegele

From his early years to present day, Dr. Wegele has been fascinated with how the body works and the exquisite balance God has built into it. Pursuing his fascination, he graduated in 1984 from Kansas State University and practiced for 3 years in Oklahoma City with an emphasis on small animal dermatology. After moving back, he worked in Kansas City, MO at Loma Vista Animal Hospital in July, 1987 until he bought Santa Fe Pet Clinic in January, 1993 and just celebrated the clinic’s 20th Anniversary on January 1st, 2013. Leslie endeavors to keep up with the most current trends and techniques in veterinary medicine by attending continuing education classes and seminars. After nearly 30 years of practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Wegele says what he enjoys most about it is “…Getting a difficult case healthy and back to their family. I especially appreciate the relationships with the people. By keeping their furry family members healthy and part of the family for many happy, productive years, I have a positive role in supporting that family.” When not helping his furry friends, Leslie enjoys being at home with his wife, Julie and together enjoying their two daughters, son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter. Between his sister-in-laws’ and their own critters, they help care for at least 5 cats, 2 dogs, various ponies, burros, Vietnamese pig, llama and more chickens that you can count. Dr. Wegele is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association.

  • Dr. Michelle Taylor

Dr. Taylor is a 2005 graduate from Kansas State University. She has special interests in geriatric medicine and animal behavior and brings to Santa Fe Pet Clinic the most current ideas in veterinary medicine. She has worked with local humane groups to care for their animals, and has remained actively involved in animal shelter medicine. Starting at Santa Fe Pet Clinic as a kennel tech, Michelle stayed with the clinic all through vet school and now as a part-time Veterinarian. She is a foster mom for many of her patients that come through her work at Great Plains SPCA and together with her herd of dogs, cats, and fish, they help many animals become well again and are able to get socialized and find new, loving homes. Dr. Taylor is also an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association.

  • Paula
    Practice Manager

Before joining the SFPC family, Paula worked for 20 years in corporate customer service. However, having always wanted to work with animals and working in a smaller business setting, she found a great home with Santa Fe Pet Clinic and living out her dream working with people who love animals just as much as her. She became interested in working with animals because of her love for them and finding out that people who have pets are a lot alike. She enjoys helping people who love animals and being able to show how any kind of pet can enhance someone's life. Paula says 'My favorite part of the job is meeting the client face to face and seeing what kind of pet or breed they have chosen'. In her spare time she enjoys watching Anime or walking anywhere with her husband, Ted (Front Desk Tech) and their Chihuahua 'Dixie'.

  • Lisa
    Veterinary Nurse, R.V.T.

Lisa became part of the SFPC family in June 2018. She was a vet tech for 15 years and then changed careers to work in the Baldwin School District as a Para Teacher. Lisa was lured back into the animal world to work with our clients and patients because she enjoys working with animals a lot, and we are very happy she decided to come join our family. She lives in Wellsville, KS with her husband Cliff, and her three children, Kaela, Trenten and Hunter. Lisa says 'I strive to provide the best client education to every pet owner that comes into our clinic. If you aren't sure about why we recommend a product, feel free to ask me.'

  • Cassidi
    Kennel Technician Manager/Vet Assistant

Cassidi joined Santa Fe Pet Clinic in August 2015. She is going to college at JCCC, and working here as a Vet Assistant as well as Kennel Tech Manager. Cassidi started her career here as a Kennel Technician while still in high school. Her mom, Michelle, has been bringing their black lab 'Max' here since he was a puppy. Cassidi also has her own baby now, an adorable terrier mix named 'Kela'. We are so happy she joined our family.  Cassidi 'loves Dr. Wegele and his family, and everyone I have met at the clinic. I hope to stay here taking care of your animals for a very long time!'

  • Jordan
    Front Desk Technician

Officially on staff since 2001 and unofficially since she could walk, Jordan has been a part of the SFPC family, helping her dad, Leslie Wegele, in many positions starting as a kennel tech, up to Front Desk Tech, and even Vet Tech, as well as many clinic projects. Since her dad is a vet and her mom grew up on a farm, Jordan has been helping and raising animals since she was little, always having a soft spot for all animals great and small. Jordan’s favorite part of her job is always meeting the animals and their people. “I love building relationships with owners and getting to know them instead of them being just another client; helping them to understand all aspects of care are what are great about this job.” Outside the clinic, Jordan is a graduate of Kansas State University and enjoys going to KSU Baseball games whenever possible (Go Cats!). When at home, she loves snuggling with her cats, “Buster” and “Bizzie” and reading a good book.

  • Ted
    Front Desk Technician

Ted joined our clinic in 2014. Ted and Paula (Office Manager) have been married for many years, and now are happy to be working here together making sure all the needs of our clients are met. Ted enjoys texting clients appointment reminders and check-up results to give them a more personal feel. In their spare time they love watching Anime together and walking everywhere with their Chihuahua 'Dixie'. We hope they are part of the Santa Fe Pet Clinic Family for a long time.

  • Cassie
    Veterinary Assistant

Beginning in 2001 as a kennel tech, and now working part-time as one of our receptionists and vet assistant. Cassie has worked anywhere from just Saturdays to full-time through college, other jobs, and now is a mother. Cassie is big lover of animals and people! She got her degree in Elementary Education, but has continued to enjoy working here through all of life’s changes over the past years. “I love the fun pets, friendly clients, great co-workers, and learning new things on a regular basis.” In addition to her love of animals, Cassie also loves to hike and backpack. She, along with her family, goes to the Colorado Rockies every year and has crossed the Grand Canyon 3 times! She is married to her amazing husband Ben and they have three children, with another one on the way, as well as two great dogs, their steady and faithful German Shepherd 'Emmy', and their black lab 'Watson'.

  • Kristal
    Pet Stylist

Kristal was a vet tech at a veterinarian clinic for 25 years, and retired to become a groomer. She left her previous clinic and has been grooming ever since. She loves grooming more and more every day. She says 'I love it when the owners say they want all the additional 'goodies' done on their dogs. Bows for girls and scarves for boys, unless, of course, they have a tom girl dog. Then I will give them a scarf too!' So ask Kristal to add the extras when you drop off your pet for grooming, especially around any holiday!

  • Rachel
    Kennel Technician

Rachel is a Junior at Olathe North High School and is currently in the Animal Health Program. She has always loved animals of all kinds. She wanted to start working in the field of animal care before she starts attending K-State to further her career with animal care, so we were fortunate to have her accept a kennel tech position with us. Her French class is fortunate enough to be going to France in Summer 2018, so she will be taking a couple weeks off.

  • Calley
    Kennel Technician

Calley joined our staff in July 2018 as a kennel tech. She is currently attending JCCC but has not quite decided what field of study to go into, but she knows it will involve animals! She has always loved working with animals and hopes to have a career after college in some area of the animal field. Calley has a pit mix named 'Dutch', a chihuahua named 'Max', a cat named'Ottis' and two bearded dragons 'Puff' and 'Pascal'.
